We’ve got the Monster Raving Loony Party, America just has raving lunatics;

That is what equates to a candidate for the Livonia Michigan City Council.

You know its the other seriously deranged people I feel sorry for, if you can get away with talking this level of crazy without seeing the man in white coats come banging on your door what else can you get away with in the U.S?

This is irrelevant to your post! It’s further to our egg & milk ‘debate’ but I’d thought I’d post it here :-P

I looked up the organic standards relating to eggs and milk production. You were right about them having to give certain feed to the animals but they are also required to adhere to set animal welfare standards. For eggs to be organic the hens must have the equivalent welfare standards as those of free range eggs. So when it comes to the welfare of the hens there is no benefit to buying organic so I will stick to buying free range eggs.

When it comes to milk I think it is better to buy organic as it guarantees a standard of animal welfare that I think should be in place i.e. the cows are required to have access to grass and the outside world which intensive milk farming cows aren’t always given. I am aware that not all non-organic milk cows are kept under very intensive farming conditions but if I just buy normal supermarket brand milk I’ve no way of knowing where it’s come from and how the cows have been kept. If there was an equivalent ‘free range’ standard for milk as with eggs then I would buy that instead. What is concerning, which I didn’t previously realise, is that the promotion of homeopathic remedies for animals is written into the organic standards. Having read the guide lines of the use of homeopathic treatment in organic farming I think that it is the lesser of the two evils and so until a better option comes along I’m still going to buy organic milk.
