Last month a friend of mine blogged about Doncaster’s recently elected mayor Peter Davies who started his mayoral hood by jumping on the Daily Mailesc PC band wagon and appointing Laura and John Midgeley, heads of the Campaign against Political Correctness, to go through the services the council offer and decide which ones are PC, and which ones aren’t. This itself is fairly ridiculous but why have one stupid idea when you can have dozens? He doesn’t like the word ‘diversity’, relishes the idea of being rude to Doncaster’s German twin town and wants to cut council funding of gay pride. This last gem he was forced into a huge U turn on after discovering that about the only person deluded enough to believe this was a good idea was himself, prompting one blogger to refer to him as, “One of the world’s worst and most stupid, reactionary, pointless and clueless Mayors known to man.” And I’m not about to disagree with them.

You would think that this would be enough crazy for one man but oh no Peter Davies has a whole lot more up his sleeve. In a recent Daily Mail article he said ‘I’m not green and I’m not conned by global warming.’ essentially allying himself with Climate Change Denialists. In response to plans to erect wind farms in the Doncaster region he said “”These [wind farm] developments have little or no benefit in terms of contributing to decreased energy consumption, nor do they have any beneficial effect on the planet’s climate in response to the great global warming scam.” 

The weight of evidence in support of man made global warming is now irrefutable; the quicker people like this are removed from positions of power and influence the better. I hope that the people of Doncaster do the right thing in the next mayoral election and vote this guy out or better yet petition to have him removed from office early.
